2008 KCCNA CONVENTION – UPDATE #1

It is my pleasure to update you on the 2008 KCCNA Knanaya Catholic Convention. As most of the North American Knanaya community already know, Indian Knanaya Catholic Community of Greater New York (IKCC) is hosting the 8th KCCNA Convention to be held on 2008 July 24, 25, 26, 27  at New Jersey Convention Center, Edison, NJ.

When the 18 North American Knanaya Associations from various regions gather together under its parent organization KCCNA, headed by Jose Kottoor President, it is the mega event of not only the Knanaites, but also the biggest convention of any Malayali religious or social organization.

Over the years KCCNA has fostered the Knanaya heritage, tradition, endogamy, faith and unity through its conventions and proved time and again we stand united under one organization - KCCNA.

Mr. Chackochan Thayilputhenpurayil, former IKCC President, has been unanimously elected as the Convention Chairman.  The Convention Committee comprising of the Chairman, KCCNA Executive Committee and the IKCC Executive committee have already started the preliminary work.

Apart from the regular convention programs, the convention committee is planning to organize various unique programs.  Anyone with innovative ideas is encouraged to contact the Chairman or the KCCNA President.

The Convention Center facility consist of 150,000 square foot of convention hall capable of seating 7000 people in theater style or 6000 people in banquet style. Accommodations are arranged at nearby Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton and Clarion hotels.

During the past two conventions approximately 3500 people / 750 families participated.  Since the convention is in New York , Convention Committee is expecting a huge turnaround this time.  They plan to restrict the number of participants to 5000.  New York will attract a lot of participants due to its prominence.  Moreover, New York is in drivable distance from lot of Knanaya hubs like Chicago , Detroit , Washington , Atlanta , Philadelphia , Ohio and Toronto .  Participation also accomplishes many people’s wish to visit the New York City , Niagara Falls , Washington DC and Atlantic City that are in drivable distance.

So, let’s plan ahead, get ready and register early for this great event.  Let’s all uphold our heritage, foster our tradition, protect our endogamy, nourish our faith and above all cherish our unity.
